HybridWe are looking for a Java Tech Lead based in Lisbon or Viseu, Portugal to strengthen the Core Development Department of a leading client in the Payments sector, as part of the design and development of a new solution built from scratch.
Mandatory: Java, Spring Boot, microservices architectures (backend), MongoDB, messaging, and experience with geo distributed setups/systems.
Requirements
Degree in Computer Engineering or similar
Mandatory experience in Java and cloud native projects, with technical leadership
Advanced command of Java (recent versions) and solid experience with Spring Boot (ideally also Spring Cloud)
Proven experience in cloud native architectures, distributed systems, microservices, and event driven patterns
Knowledge of containers and orchestration (Kubernetes or equivalent)
Strong command of microservices patterns: circuit breaker, saga, retries, API gateway, service discovery, service mesh, REST, gRPC, among others
Hands on experience with messaging/streaming (Kafka, Pulsar, RabbitMQ, etc.)
Knowledge of active/active topologies, geo distribution, fault tolerance, and high availability
Experience with distributed databases (SQL/NoSQL) and consistency models (eventual, strong, compensation)
Solid knowledge of application and API security (OAuth2/OIDC, secrets management, hardening)
Experience in observability (centralized logging, metrics, tracing) and SRE practices
Experience in payments, instant payments, or mission critical financial systems
Knowledge of standards such as ISO 20022 and SEPA Inst
Certifications in Cloud, Cloud Architecture, and/or Kubernetes (valued)
Strong communication skills, mentoring ability, technical rigor, and a collaborative spirit
Work Model: Hybrid, 3 days per week in Lisbon or Viseu.
Main responsibilities
Be the technical focal point of the project, supporting Management and Product Owners in strategic technology and roadmap decisions
Design, define, and evolve the cloud native architecture of the solution, based on microservices, APIs, and event driven patterns, ensuring vendor independence (cloud agnostic) and support for active/active topologies
Ensure alignment between development and architecture, from solution design through to production release
Conduct regular code reviews, promoting good engineering practices, clean code, and automated testing, ensuring the technical quality of the platform
Manage and prioritize technical debt, identifying critical refactors and ensuring the sustainable evolution of the product
Ensure non functional requirements such as performance, resilience, security, observability, and scalability
Support the design of high availability strategies, data consistency, and disaster recovery plans
Promote and maintain up to date technical documentation, including architecture, decisions, standards, and development guides
